10-Month-Old Girl Dies After Being Raped By Her Father In US (Photos)

Ten-month-old girl dies 'after being raped by her youth football coach father, 29, who Googled "how do I know if a baby is dead" and waited an hour before calling 911'

A Pennsylvania father has been arrested for allegedly raping his 10-month-old daughter, who later died from her injuries at a hospital.

Austin Stevens, 29, of Providence Township, was charged on Tuesday with aggravated sexual assault, rape of a child, involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, endangering the welfare of a child and other criminal counts in the death of his baby daughter, Zara Scruggs.

According to a press release from the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, at around 10.40pm on Saturday, Lower Providence police responded to a home in the 3400 block of Germantown Road to a report of an unresponsive infant.

Officers immediately began CPR on Zara and transported her to Einstein Medical Center Montgomery, where she was pronounced dead less than two hours later.

Police obtained a search warrant to download the contents of Stevens' phone, which revealed that the 29-year-old father had conducted multiple Google searches for nearly an hour before calling 911 to get help for his dying daughter.

The subjects of Stevens' online searches included 'If baby stop breathing,' 'What if you don’t hear baby heart or beat,' 'My baby isn’t breathing,' and 'How do you know if a bsby [sic] is dead,' according to prosecutors.

Stevens also allegedly exchanged social media messages and texts with two women, which failed to mention his daughter's condition.

A search of Stevens' upstairs apartment turned up a diaper Zara was wearing during the alleged rape.

'The diaper was saturated with blood,' the press release from the DA's office stated.

An autopsy determined that the baby girl, who had just learned how to walk, sustained anal rectal trauma and blunt force trauma to the head.

'This case is deeply disturbing. It is hard to imagine this child’s death being any more traumatic: sexual assault on an infant, followed by inaction by the father to save her life, led to her death,' said Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele, calling the crime 'heinous'.

Stevens is being held at the county jail on $1million bail pending a preliminary hearing set for October 13.

Social media posts indicate that Stevens is the co-owner of a construction company, reported ABC6. He also served as an assistant coach for the Lower Providence Warriors youth football team.

Stevens had a joint custody agreement with Zara's mother, according to authorities. As NBC10 reported, the baby's maternal grandparents were among the last people to see her alive when they placed her in her father's car so he could take her to his apartment for an overnight visit.

Erica Scruggs, the baby's mother, took to Facebook on Tuesday, writing: 'I’m not okay. I really have no words ... He will pay.'

Meanwhile, Zara's relative has launched a GoFundMe page to help her grieving mother. The fundraiser so far has drawn more than $28,000 in donations.

'She sparked so much joy,' the organizer of the campaign wrote in the description. 'She was smart. She was silly. She was sassy. She was perfect. She was a beautiful baby and brought so much beauty into hundreds of lives.'

Restructuring: I Won’t Succumb To Pressure ― Buhari

Against the mounting agitation for the restructuring of the country, President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he is not moved and vowed not to succumb to pressure.

A statement emanating from the office of presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, on Sunday night, which made this position known, noted what it said were the recurring threats to the corporate existence of the country with different people pressing Buhari to do certain things at specific times.

The statement said: “The presidency responds to the recurring threats to the corporate existence of the country with factions giving specific timelines for the president to do one thing or another or else, in their language, ‘the nation will break up.

The Presidency warned that Buhari will not take any action out of pressure, noting that all attention is needed to tackle the coronavirus at this time.

It added: “This is to warn that such unpatriotic outbursts are both unhelpful and unwarranted as this government will not succumb to threats and take any decision out of pressure at a time when the nation’s full attention is needed to deal with the security challenges facing it at a time of the Covid-19 health crisis.”

The statement further insisted: “Repeat: this administration will not take any decision against the interests of 200 million Nigerians, who are the president’s first responsibility under the constitution, out of fear or threats especially in this hour of a health crisis.

“The president as an elected leader under this constitution will continue to work with patriotic Nigerians, through and in line with the parliamentary processes to find solutions to structural and other impediments to the growth and wellbeing of the nation and its people.”

OODUA NATION? COUNT ME OUT SAYS SOWORE

Activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has disowned claim that he had abandoned the plan to be part of a mass protest scheduled for Nigeria’s Independence Day and embraced agitation by a segment of people in the Southwest for the creation of Oodua nation out of the country.

Sowore, who was a co- convener of #RevolutionNow said this while reacting to a publication attributed to one Maiyegun, indicating that he has abandoned the #RevolutionNow Global Mass Action slated for October 1st 2020 and has declared support for agitators of Oodua nation.

The activist who described the claim as ‘false narrative’ said in a post on his Facebook page on Monday page that without a #Revolution in Nigeria, an Oodua Nation will be worse than present day Nigeria.

Sowore cited his experience when he was arrested and the arrest of protesters across the Southwest to justify his claim.

He also asserted that the goal of #RevolutionNow protest was not just about a united Nigeria, but a “united Africa” in his lifetime.

FALSE NARRATIVE: This might just be a tactic to demobilise people who are gearing towards #RevolutionNow Global Mass Action slated for October 1st 2020, to be clear, I doubt that Maiyegun was in on this plot. I just want the general public to note that, our goals are even beyond Nigeria, I want to see a united Africa in my lifetime, if possible or at least let our ideas and sacrifices propel future revolutionaries to achieve that lofty goal!

Let me share some of my experiences with compatriots: When I was arrested in Lagos from my hotel room on August 3rd 2019, the people who came to arrest me were mostly Yoruba goons within the DSS, the fellow (a senior officer who first forcefully snatched my phone) who made me sleep on wet floor at Shangisha was a Yoruba man, the fellow who gladly escorted me to Abuja smiling happily all the way and ordering omelette and fried yam on a small jet that took us was Yoruba man, my two jailers who made sure I could not talk to my wife and kids on the phone were Yoruba persons, the legal officer at the DSS headquarters in Abuja who drafted the false charges against me was a Yoruba man!

Without a #Revolution in Nigeria, an Oodua Nation will be worse than present day Nigeria!

Since I got released I have it on authority that it is in Yoruba states -Osun, Oyo and  Lagos that young people who participated in #RevolutionNow protested since 2019 are still under malicious trial by Yoruba Magistrates, no where else in Nigeria as of today is anyone else still under trial. Even the young men arrested for pasting in poster in 2018 are still on trial in Lagos. It was also in the Oodua states that our members were arrested on August 5 2020 and detained unlawfully for partaking in peaceful protests! #RevolutionNow No Going Back!
