How I Was Raped By Policeman For Not Wearing A Face Mask

How police officer raped me till dawn for not wearing nose mask, widow narrates

Rights defender demands immediate investigation, prosecution
By Egufe Yafugborhi

HUMAN rights defender, Prince Wiro, on Wednesday charged the Police Command in Rivers State to investigate and prosecute its personnel accused of raping a woman for breach of COVID-19 protocol.

The victim, a 32-year-old widow, said a policeman attached to the Sakpenwa Police Division, Tai Local Government Area, allegedly abducted her Tuesday to a guest house where he raped her at gunpoint after arresting her for not wearing a nose mask.

She narrated: “I was returning from Bori to Port Harcourt when I met some police officers at a checkpoint. They arrested me for not wearing a nose mask. They kept me long there with them.

“Thereafter they carried me from one place to the other, claiming they want to take me to the police station, but never took me to any police station.

“After some time, they took me to a guest house where one of them raped me till dawn. His name is Inspector Peter Iba of Sakpenwa Police Station.”

Prince Wiro, in response to the allegations, demanded the Police Command in the state to, “Open immediate investigation into the alleged rape of this woman by a serving officer.

“There is no justification for the punishment of rape to be meted out to a woman because she flouted Rivers State Government order on the use of nose masks. I expect the police to take this matter seriously.

“You know there’s a recent order from the Inspector General of Police charging every Command to do everything possible to make rape a thing of the past in the society.”

The victim had on the spur-of-the-moment on Tuesday raised alarm in a text message posted on a WhatsApp media platform where she lamented, “I have been taken to a guess house just because of N100 face mask.

“I can’t believe this is happening to me. He wants to sleep with me. I am dying. He wouldn’t let me pick any call. He threatened to seize my phone.”

The Police Command in the state reacting to the allegation through the Police Public Relations Officer, Rivers Command, Nnamdi Omoni, said: “After hearing about this, we immediately invited the lady. After hearing from her, she made a written statement and Investigation has commenced.”

Gbadebo Richard: UNIBADAN Student Dies In A Soap-Making Machine In Ibadan

A 300-level student of the Department of European Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan, Gbadebo Richard, has died in an industrial accident in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State, on Tuesday.

SaharaReporters gathered that the accident happened at the Oluyole factory of Henkel Nigeria Limited, producers of WAW detergent and soap.

Twenty-year-old Richard, who was on night shift, was said to have fallen into one of the machines in the factory.

The other workers were not aware until they saw blood coming out through the other side of the machine.

“His family members were not informed by the company until an unknown number called them. So they mobilised to the company and blocked the road, about 30 police officers were called in to prevent disturbance.

"An ambulance later came and Richard’s father was allowed into the building. He later went with the body, packed in a plastic bag in the ambulance to the morgue at Teju Hospital without any of the staff of the factory,” a source told SaharaReporters.

The incident was also confirmed through a broadcast signed by President and Public Relations Officer of the faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan.

“It’s completely disheartening to announce the death of Mr Gbadebo Richard (300-level student) from the Department of European Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan.

"Your fervor to become greater in life was cut short by your sudden death. Team Evolution uses this medium to sympathise with the family of our late Afasite who was active, effective and diligent in studies. We pray that God be with the family and wipe out similar occurrence,” the statement read.

Olugbenga Fadeyi, Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, neither responded to calls nor replied to text messages over the issue.

When You Know How Much You Struggled To Buy Your Sallah Ram

Pastor who kept kidnap victim inside church says he started crime to expand his ministry

A pastor who led a kidnapping ring in Ogun State has been arrested by operatives attached to the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force.

52-year-old Adetokumbo Adenopo was paraded before the media alongside three members of his criminal gang on Wednesday, July 29, 2020.

Adenopo, the Founder and General Overseer of New Life Ministry, Lukosi, in Shagamu Area of Ogun State, was arrested in connection with the abduction of one Jonathan Ekpo.

Force spokesperson, Frank Mba, disclosed at the media parade that the victim, an employee of a logistic company, was kidnapped on July 17 while on official duty to deliver goods in Shagamu.

Ekpo was kept in an underground cabin inside Adenopo's church building in Ogijo town, Ogun by his abductors who demanded the payment of N20 million as ransom for his freedom.

"Curiously, the pastor told the Police operatives that he embarked on the crime for the expansion of his church and charity works," Mba said.

Ekpo was rescued unhurt by the Police nine days after his abduction, and was reunited with his family.

The other members of the gang arrested by the IRT are Chigozie Williams, 22, Ugoji Linus, 30, and Emmanuel Chris Ani, 27.

A total of 35 suspects were paraded before the media on Wednesday, with items recovered including four AK-47 rifles, one FMC rifle, one pump action gun, two double barrel guns, one Beretta pistol, four AK-47 magazines, six cartridges, 378 rounds of live ammunition, and one network jammer.

30-year-old Udodiri Bright was arrested alongside three other members of his gang in connection with the murder of Chuks Okebata, a Nigerian-born United States soldier, in 2017.

The victim had been on holiday in his Okigwe hometown in Imo State when he was killed by the gang.

Others arrested in connection with his murder are Ekwuru Shadrack, 26, Chimerie Igwe, 30, and Chibuike Sunday, 28.

"The suspects who are one of the foremost kidnapping groups terrorizing the South Eastern part of the country were arrested 31 months after, following intensive manhunt by the Police team," Mba said.

The IRT also arrested a 9-member trans-boundary armed robbery and car snatching syndicate led by one Yakubu Hayatu, 30.

Mba alleged that the gang has snatched over 30 exotic cars at gun point, and killed two police officers.

The gang used anti-tracker devices to evade arrest and delivered the vehicles to one Alhaji Garba in Maradi, Niger Republic.

Mba said 18 stolen vehicles have already been recovered, and that the IRT is working with INTERPOL to arrest Garba and recover other vehicles.

Other members of the gang are Adamu Awalu, 28, Abdulrahman Yakubu, 23, Yusuf Adamu, 22, Kamal Japhet, 22, Abubakar Samaila, 20, Muhammadu Abdulahi, 20, Yahaya Mohammed, 18, and Ibrahim Abubakar, 21.

Mba said all the suspects will be charged to court on conclusion of investigations.

Makinwa Laughs Off Report Alleged AMCON House Takeover

My Friends Exploiting Money From Me, Advice Needed- Man Pleads on Social Media!!

Hi all,

I will really appreciate if moderator can help push this to front page.

Firstly, insults are welcome. I reside in Europe. Two of my friends they are biological brothers, they've been sucking me. I have been sending them money regularly for years, yes years, but I now realised that these people are not ready to work or learn any skill. Even their own biological brother in abroad reported them to me and doesn't take them serious anymore except their mum. Infarct, i used to send money to their mum too. But they just keep asking me for money everytime. Imagine I just sent you money when you said you are sick, two days after you sent me voice record asking me for money to rent a shop. Then the younger one who's chat bellow asking me for 100k for three of them as if I am picking money on the floor here. To some people in Nigeria who always think all nigerians in diaspora think we always think you're begging for money whenever you say hi just to hear from us, it is not the case. How about this too?

I am really tired. My wife who always agree I should help them have started complaining too. These two friends suddenly changed because I used to send them money even before they ask. It's like every week one problem must happen to them that require money. They will just send account number and the deadline time. They keep coming, coming, coming back again after giving. I have paid hundreds of thousands of naira for visa processing for one of them maybe at least they will stop asking me for money and one will be able to help his brother, but the visa was unsuccessful.

Few days ago one of them ask me to give him my sister's number that he just want to greet her since it's been years he saw her last. Behold, the next day my sister called to ask when did I hear from my friend last and did he mention about financial problem to me, I told my sister that he called me two days ago and asked of her number which I gave him. My sister said he requested for money to support his house rent and she sent him some money. I was shocked. Can you imagine guys? My friend. I am not saying it's a crime for him to ask my sister money but why lie to me that you just want to greet her when you asked me for her number? Whereas I just sent him money too not even up to a week.

See another demand again, see my reply, see his reply.

I know one or the two of them will start gossiping me around that I am proud, but they won't tell them about the good I have done for them, I have been doing. They won't. Some friends are not worth it anymore. I am very upset now that it's affecting me mentally and with my wife. Even my children were asking me last night "dad are you alright, you're not happy".

You know what again, one of them sent messages to my wife asking for mobile phone. I saw it but my wife didn't know that I saw it not until I responded to him myself and told my wife to never bother. My wife later sent the phone to him. Since then he's been using that opportunity to demand from her. Though he eventually stopped it but continue asking me only.

I have sent so much money but they just never stop asking. And I am not the time that take pictures and flaunt them on social media. I live my life on low-key.

I need your honest opinion.

Insults are welcome I promise I won't react to any insult.

I wanted to block them on my social media especially on WhatsApp but I had a rethink so they won't feel like I am proud because I am in abroad.

Olorunrinu: 'Nigerians Should Beg Tinubu To Contest 2023 Presidency

Those criticising the 2023 presidential ambition of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s National Leader, Bola Tinubu, are only envious of the great strides he had attained both in his personal and political life, a party chieftain has said.

A former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Dipo Olounrinu, told Daily Trust in a chat that no Nigerian politician had attained the level of Tinubu in politics.

“The APC leader has not only made himself, he has made countless number of people and impacted on lives of millions of people,” he stated. Daily Trust reports that there has been widespread speculation about Tinubu, who is a former Governor of Lagos State, eyeing the 2023 presidency.

Though, Tinubu has said the time was not yet ripe for the 2023 electioneering, several groups and his supporters, especially in Lagos, have intensified pressure on him to contest the 2023 presidential poll.

But speaking on the development, Olounrinu who is a grassroots politician, berated those making negative comments about Tinubu, saying Nigerians should even beg him to contest.

He said the APC National Leader is not only competent for the presidency of the country, but he also enjoys the support of the majority of Nigerians to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said: “I don’t see any reason he shouldn’t be given that chance. What is good for the geese is also good for the gander. You cannot rule out what is good. What is good is just good. This (Tinubu) is somebody that has pedigree and antecedents.

“So, why the whole argument of people criticising him whether he wants to run or he doesn’t want to run, even if he doesn’t want, we should beg him to, that’s just the truth.

“You need experienced people, people that have experience of life generally, they have seen the other side of life, they have seen the best part of life. There should be a yardstick in looking at things.”According to him, Tinubu had demonstrated uncommon political sagacity and dexterity in driving the APC to become the ruling party.

Olounrinu recalled how Tinubu was in the opposition for years as a Governor of Lagos State where he weathered the storm & sustained his grip on Lagos politics. He said no politician could be more qualified than Tinubu to steer the ship of the nation to greatness.Olounrinu is a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who is now a chieftain of the APC.

Akin Alabi To Artist Who Shared An Artwork Of Him & Ajimobi "I Don't Like It

An artist who made an artwork of Akin Alabi and his late mentor Abiola Ajimobi got more than he bargained from the politician when he asked twitter users for a retweet of the work. Akin Alabi bluntly replied to the artist that he doe not like the work, even though the request to retweet was meant for others and not him. What is your take on this drawing?

There has been a barrage of attacks on the betting executive for being so harsh on an upcoming artist who probably needed his encouragement. Several twitter users said his silence would have been better than putting down the efforts of the artist in such a manner

Dauda Lawal Testifies Against Magu

A former Executive Director with First Bank of Nigeria Plc, Dauda Lawal, appeared before the Justice Ayo Salami-led presidential panel on Saturday to give evidence against the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu.

Lawal is currently standing trial before a Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly receiving $25m out of the $153m loot traced to a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

A source close to the panel said the former banker was invited as part of a probe into the investigative deficiencies of the EFCC under Magu.

He said Lawal was asked to testify without prejudice to his ongoing corruption trial.

It was learnt that while the former banker was giving his testimony, Magu walked into the venue at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa around 12pm, three hours before he was scheduled to appear.

A top source said, “Lawal appeared before the panel to clarify some allegations he had made in the past against the EFCC some of which had been reported to the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation. This was without prejudice to his ongoing corruption trial.

“However, Magu strolled in around 12pm even though he was expected to arrive at 3pm. The panel members were initially reluctant to let Magu witness the hearing but he pleaded and was permitted to do so.”

Lawal, however, repeated the allegations he made against the EFCC in a counter-affidavit he filed before Justice Muslim Hassan of a Federal High Court in 2017.

The EFCC had frozen Lawal’s accounts and applied for the permanent forfeiture of his funds which the ex-banker challenged.

In a counter-affidavit he deposed to which formed the basis for his invitation by the panel, Lawal said the EFCC detained him for 11 days in 2016 and promised to release him only on the condition that he return some funds.

On how he received the $25m, Lawal said he received a call from a friend, Stanley Lawson, March 2015 to help collect the money, which he subsequently paid into an account provided for him.

“I had no idea of the origin of the said funds and only acted in the course of normal banking business,” he said.

The former banker said the EFCC allegedly compelled him to provide funds he never received.

Lawal said in the affidavit, “Having been invited and subsequently detained in Lagos for 11 consecutive days and without access to members of my immediate family, the EFCC investigators kept suggesting and insisting that there was a shortfall of $40m, which I had yet to account for.

They were alleging that I had in fact taken $65m as opposed to the $25m, which I stated that I had received. The EFCC investigators interrogating me made it clear that the only way that I could/would leave detention is if I made their suggested shortfall available to them.

“Because I never had this EFCC invented $40m to give, I had to use my personal connections to source for and raise about 50 per cent of the said amount while I was in detention. I managed to borrow some of the money from the bank where I am an executive director and surrendered it to the EFCC through my legal counsel and was eventually released from detention on May 20, 2016.
“Consequently, in a three-week period between May 13 and June 6, 2016, I was made to surrender to the EFCC Recovery Account at the Central Bank of Nigeria the total sum of N9.08bn.

We’ll no longer condone allegations – Magu’s lawyer

Meanwhile, Magu’s lawyer, Mr. Wahab Shittu, says his client will no longer condone allegations levelled against him.

Shittu said this in a statement on Sunday titled, ‘Re: Magu faces questions over assets declaration – Fresh Propaganda Against Our Client Prejudicial to Panel Proceedings’.

The statement was in reaction to media reports that Magu was facing fresh investigation for failing to declare his assets before the Code of Conduct Bureau as required by law.

The lawyer said they were shocked by several false and defamatory imputations not arising from the proceedings of the panel.

He said, “Take notice that our client can no longer fold his hands in the face of these sustained malicious attacks to prejudge him in the public space. Our client will henceforth, point by point reply to all false allegations orchestrated against him in the public space on a daily basis as well as present his comprehensive defence for the world to see.”

It’s absurd for person on trial to testify against Magu – Ex-EFCC boss lawyer

When contacted on the telephone, a lawyer to Magu, Mr. Tosin Ojaomo, said it was immoral and absurd for Lawal who is standing trial, to give evidence before a panel against Magu.

Ojaomo said, “It is absurd that Dauda Lawal who is standing trial and has returned money believed to be proceeds of crime is being used as a witness. This is against the principle of natural justice. This is what we have been complaining about.”
