Waje: “I Got Pregnant In SS3 And My Church Banned Me From Singing In Choir”

Singer, Aituaje Iruobe, aka Waje, went down memory lane during the week when she recounted how she got pregnant while writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations.
The ‘Frenemies’ singer shared her experience in a recent Instagram Live chat with gospel rapper, Bouqui.

She said, “I got into a relationship in SS3 and the relationship went from ‘puppy love’ to sexual. At that time, I felt I loved him and that (sex) was the only way I could express my love. At that time, I saw a fine boy who liked me, though we quarreled on several occasions. I didn’t understand the responsibility that came with making decisions like that.

“I got pregnant and I remembered one afternoon, I was in the bathroom when someone came to my house and told me my pastor wanted to see me. I knew that day, there were two things that would happen ― either I died or I died. Everything in me got drained.

“Anyway, I went to see the pastor. He was in a conference room with other pastors and he said to me, ‘If you lie, you will die, because you are standing in front of God, Holy Spirit and me.’

“He asked me, ‘Are you pregnant?’ and I said, ‘Yes’. He was so disappointed. He told me he wanted to see me in church every Wednesday and Sunday but I would no longer sing in the choir.”

Waje also stated that her mother didn’t know she was pregnant until she was five months gone.

She said, “I wrote the WASSCE while pregnant and nobody knew; not even my mother. I told her about my pregnancy after five months.

“After one morning devotion, I told her I had something to tell her. I told her I was pregnant and wasn’t planning on aborting it.

“At that point, she already knew who was responsible because he used to come to our house. After telling her, she told me to go back to bed. However, I knew something in her broke because she didn’t go back to sleep.”

I Think All The Men Our Mothers Raise Lately Are He-goats; That’s Why I Left The Men Group – Bobrisky

Controversial Nigerian cross dresser Bobrisky has fumed at domestic violence saying all the men our mothers raise of late are all he-goats.

Bobrisky who wasn’t pleased with what she saw of a fan who has been brutally beaten by the husband vented her anger on all men calling them he-goats.

She posted on her Instagram page saying all those asking women to still be in their abusive relationship are stupid as they won’t be able to help when the lady dies because of that.

She therefore sarcastically stated that this is one of the reasons why she left the men’s chat group to join the women chat group as she finds some of these behaviours appalling.

WAEC: Imo Schools Charge Students N2,000 Per Subject To Allow Cheating - SR

Some public secondary schools in Imo State are reportedly charging students N2,000 per subject to provide them with answers to questions in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
The school owners met with students before the commencement of the examination where they informed them that they would provide the answers if each student paid N2,000 per subject.

A relative of the students, who spoke with our correspondent, said the schools claimed that majority of the students might fail because of the Coronavirus lockdown and unpreparedness for the examination.

The relative also said the school claimed that the money would be given to each invigilator monitoring the examination.

“The school management held meetings with their students and it was agreed they pay the N2,000 to settle WAEC invigilators to give them way for exam cheats.

“School principals in public secondary schools in Imo State are charging WAEC students N2,000 per subject as sorting fees to settle WAEC invigilators.

“They said the money will be to allow their students to engage in exam malpractices in the various subjects because of their unpreparedness for the exams caused by COVID-19 closure of schoolse since March 2020,” the relative said as he pleaded anonymity.

The relative stated that some schools in the rural area of the state wire collecting a lesser fee from the students.

“Other public secondary schools in rural areas are paying N1,500 against N2,000 paid in urban public schools.

“The schools came up with the plan so they can collect money from the students.

“The public schools are to generate over N300,000 per day and the maximum they will give WAEC invigilators will be N50,000 while the balance will be for the school management,” he added.

The examination, which started today, August 17, is scheduled to end on September 7, 2020.

Universities Awarding Degrees In Less Than 6 Months, PhD Below 1 Year - NUC

Uncovers varsities selling academic projects, thesis N3000 per copy
… Laments influx of graduates with fake degrees from foreign institutions in NYSC

National Universities Commission (NUC) has lamented the rate at which high institutions across the country are awarding higher degrees within six months and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in less than one year.

The Spokesperson of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Azuka Ogugua yesterday in Abuja quoted the Executive Secretary of NUC, Professor Abubakar Rashid Adamu, to have stated this when he led a delegation to ICPC.

According to Ogugua, Adamu also said that NUC had found institutions where academic projects and thesis were on sale for N3000 per copy, adding that another disturbing scenario was the influx of graduates with fake degrees from foreign institutions into the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The Secretary also revealed that fake institutions from the Benin Republic and Uganda were now recruiting students from Nigeria.

According to him, “ICPC had re-enforced the belief in Nigeria that corruption can be fought in a more civil and knowledge-based manner. You have helped us by weeding out fake degree mills in time past, we need your assistance in tackling illegal universities in the name of foreign universities with centres in Nigeria.

“We have them from Benin Republic, sometimes they award degrees in 6 months, while our degrees in Nigeria run for four years and above. We also have a case of a university in Uganda which recruits only students from Nigeria and South Sudan. There are also universities from Ghana that rent two-bedroom flats in Lagos and award PhD degrees in six months.”

According to the ICPC Spokesperson, the commission has concluded plans to begin clamping down on illegal degree awarding institutions as well as tackle the problem of sexual harassment in tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

She disclosed that the plan to tackle the problem of fake degrees and sexual harassment was reached with the management of the NUC during a courtesy visit to ICPC’s headquarters, Abuja, recently.

Chairman of ICPC, Professor Bolaji Owasanoye, said that the Commission would partner with NUC to tackle the menace stressing that it was fraudulent for people to parade fake degrees.

Owasanoye said that ICPC was already handling about 12 cases of sexual harassments in tertiary institutions adding that a conviction was recently secured against a professor in Obafemi Awolowo University.

He also urged NUC to help domesticate anti-corruption studies developed by ICPC through its Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN) in tertiary institutions curriculum, which had already been embedded in the secondary school curriculum.
